Seafarers Memorial Tipeser , Sculpted by Joseph Norah, Tipeser is inspired by a photography from 1930
Though our history, our beaches and their boulders have been a nursery where a generations learnt to fish, to love and respect the sea.
Sadly, as seafarers, the capricious sea took the lives of many of them and of their passengers.
This project, the brainchild of local personality Mr. Robert Grandcourt who hails from a family of distinguished mariners, erected on Praslin next to the new passenger jetty at Baie Ste Anne and will long remain as a monument to the seafaring spirit that epitomises the island lifestyle and also to Joseph Norah’s exceptional art for capturing it so eloquently for all eternity.
The feeling is still surreal...
The story we lived
The people we met
The message we left
The history we made
Thanks to the generosity of each and every one of you who contributed to transforming the Seafarer's Monument from a dream into a reality during the official inauguration by the President of Seychelles Mr Wavel Ramkalawan and Mr. Grandcourt this Friday - we are truly very grateful to all of you as well as all the distinguished guests who attended the ceremony.
We hope that a small inside of what we experienced will be a pleasant memory for all Seychelles residents and future generations to come.
