This bronze sculpture of the Seychelles Land Tortoise is a physical interpretation of my beloved country – Seychelles nature, its beauty and surroundings, being one of its natural assets and tourist attraction and protected species. It commemorates the Seychelles Land tortoise of now . The species is endemic to the islands of the Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles. Seychelles Tortoise species vary in size and are amongst longest land- lived land animals in the world. They are generally believed to between 80-120 years, and some may even pass away at over 250 years of age. They move slowly with average walking speed of 0.2-0.5km/h, and have a shell to protect from predation and other treats. Seychelles Tortoises are animals protected by the Seychelles laws, under these laws it is strictly illegal to catch, injure or kill a turtle. No person may interfer with, capture, injure, fish for kill, sell, relating to purchase, receive or posses any turtle. The land tortoise sculpture is one of my “Treasures of the ocean’’ collection exhibited during 2022 Seychelles Biennale side show exhibition -
